Elizabeth Wallace | A Crossing Place

2 – 25 February 2017

In A Crossing Place, Sydney artist Elizabeth Wallace presents drawings that are based on experiences in Varanasi, India.
Each mark is made with smoke and overlaid on paper that has been folded to reflect the topography of the city itself. These fragile marks evoke the sensory experience of moving across the city landscape and reference the city’s status as a sacred place to cross over to the afterlife.
Elizabeth Wallace was awarded the 2016 MARS Linden New Art Prize.
