Stephen Haley is a Melbourne based painter, digital media artist and writer. Using various media, including 3D modelling software, his work investigates actual and virtual space while building on his PhD thesis that considered the mirror as the defining metaphor and mechanism underpinning contemporary Western space and culture.
Haley has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally for the past 18 years including exhibitions in Europe and the US. He exhibits with Lumas Gallery in Berlin, Paris, New York, Zurich and London.
Haley has won a number of prestigious art awards and residencies including an Australia Council studio residency in Los Angeles (2006), an Australia Council New Work Grant (2009) and an Arts Victoria New Work Grant (2012).
A survey exhibition of recent work – Somewhere About Now – was held in 2012 at Glen Eira City Gallery.
Dr. Stephen Haley is the Graduate Research Coordinator (MFA) in the School of Art at the VCA.
