John Scurry
John Scurry began showing his work in 1969, immediately building a reputation as a master draughtsman. He held his first solo show in 1975 and rapidly became known in art circles as a renowned printmaker. Scurry simultaneously became renowned as a gifted portraiturist with numerous high profile commissions. However, despite being represented in most major state, regional and private collections, Scurry has tended to escape the limelight of some of his contemporaries. This is in part due to the artists’ personality – Scurry is a reflective, considered individual who takes his art extremely seriously and has little time for the pandering to fashion that tends to be rife in the art world. But, as history has amply proven time and again, artists who are fashion-stricken rarely survive the test of time. John Scurry will not be such a victim.
