Louiseann Zahra-King's practice explores notions of longevity, permanence, mortality and the ephemeral nature of existence. She is particularly interested in ritual in contemporary society and as historical/cultural occurrence and this was a major theme in her PhD research – A Ritual for Making. Zahra-King’s work has long-featured discarded objects, in particular domestic, hand-made textiles. Zahra-King is moved by the quiet drama of the discarded and it is these peripheral objects that act as a catalyst for her practice.
