Bonnie Lane | Liquid Candy
28 June – 14 July 2018
Drawing attention to the absence of the female gaze in contemporary pornography, Bonnie Lane’s Liquid Candy subverts conventions of heteronormativity by objectifying male solo masturbation through the lens of the female in a series of intricately detailed beaded paintings.
Inspired by images found online, the initial source materials were chosen from a place of female desire and transformed into provocative images of visual pleasure and stimulation both in their craft and content. Liquid Candy is Bonnie Lane’s debut solo exhibition with MARS Gallery and marks a shift in Lane’s practice away from digital-to-digital output and into a reinterpretation in which the digital is transformed into craft.
