22 Aug Josh Muir | Melbourne Art Trams
Josh Muir has been selected as one of eight Victorian artists whose work will canvas a Melbourne Art Tram. Part of Melbourne Festival, Josh’s Tram will travel route 59 from 9 October 2017 until April 2018.
It’s becoming a ritual for modern times: eight Victorian artists are given trams as their canvas and told to go to town. The resulting transformations take one of the city’s most familiar icons and cause us to see them with fresh eyes, as mirrors on our culture, windows to the imagination or spaces to gather and share. Get carried away. The two sides of Josh Muir’s tram narrate the story of William Buckley, the ‘wild white man’: an escaped English convict who lived with the Wathaurong people for many years.
Melbourne Festival will invite the public to vote on a tram for the People’s Choice Award from October – November.
