NFT Event at MARS

Wednesday 12th May, 6.30pm at MARS Gallery, Melbourne

NFTs have gotten the whole world talking. Earlier this month, Sotheby’s sold an NFT series by the digital artist Pak for over $17 million USD, a sale which promoted one big question: is NFT art here to stay?

Amidst the hype and excitement, there’s plenty of confusion about NFTs and their place in the art world today. That’s why this May, MARS Gallery is presenting a 2-hour seminar event on all things NFT. What are they, who are they for, and how on earth does art fit into the equation?

This event will present guests with an opportunity to learn all about the basic principles of NFTs. MARS Gallery’s goal is to empower attendees with concrete knowledge so that they’ll leave with a sound understanding of NFTs and their place in the art world today. The seminar will be followed by an informal cocktail hour and a Q&A.

What is it?

An expert-led seminar breaking down the barriers of NFTs, in which industry experts will tell all about the new NFT boom.

Speaking on the night will be Sebastian Marcu, a copyright and IP lawyer who will speak on the legal implications of NFT art. Also speaking (via Zoom) will be Clara Che Wei Peh, a Singapore-based arts researcher, lecturer, and writer who will share her views on the growing trend and its future in the industry. Joining the panel will be Sue Beyer, a Melbourne-based artist who will talk about the process of making and selling NFT art to an emerging market.

Where is it?

MARS Gallery, 7 James Street, Windsor on Wednesday 12th of May 2021. Starting at 6:30pm sharp.

Who can come?

Anyone with a curious mind and an interest in NFTs, art collecting, cryptocurrency, and everything in between. No prior knowledge of blockchain or NFTs is required.

Andy Dinan, director at MARS Gallery, said: “Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve received dozens of enquiries from collectors and artists about NFTs. Everyone wants to know what NFT art is, should they be buying it, and what it all means for the arts sector. This has made it really clear to us that NFTs are a topic that we, as a gallery, need to address”.

“As a gallery, we’re always looking out for the next big innovations in the art world. But we don’t want to give out advice blindly. We hold events like this because we want to provide collectors and artists with the best advice out there… and there’s no better way to do this than by listening to what the experts have to say”.
