Samuel Tupou | Duplikator @ Linden New Art

Samuel Tupou’s solo exhibition Duplikator is now showing at Linden New Art.

Duplikator runs from 21 July – 9 October 2016.

Born in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1976, of Tongan and New Zealand descent.

Tupou’s signature is his vivid colour-scapes, pop sensibility, and street art tech- niques combined with patterns inspired by traditional Tongan Tapa designs. Adapting printmaking techniques such as silkscreen printing onto layers of Perspex and PVC, Tupou’s works are multi-layered both in appearance and cultural context. Tupou’s artwork explores themes of migration, culture clash, decoration and value, with particular focus on elements that unite the Paci c, such as recurring design motifs, traditional patterning and the convergence of culture’s.

Tupou has recently been curated into exhibitions at Cambelltown Arts Centre and Footscray Art Centre. Tupou’s work has been collected by institutions in- cluding the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, State Library of Victoria, Melbourne, Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle, Cairns Regional Gallery, Cairns and Artbank, Sydney.
