Ramsay Art Prize 2019

Congratulations to Sophia Hewson who has been announced as a finalist in the 2019 Ramsay Art Prize with her work performance work Untitled (Viewer as patient)

Held every two years, the Ramsay Art Prize is an acquisitive prize that invites submissions from Australian artists under 40 working in any medium. 

Finalists have been be selected by an international judging panel: Russell Storer, Deputy Director (Curatorial and Research), National Gallery of Singapore, Richard Lewer, contemporary artist, and Dr Lisa Slade, Assistant Director, Artistic Programs, Art Gallery of South Australia. Finalists works will be exhibited in a major exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia from 25 May to 25 August 2019. Through the generosity of the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation, the winning work is acquired into the Gallery’s collection.

As a culmination of her 2016 to 2018 research project, Sophia Hewson invites the viewer to book in a therapy session from 24 – 26 May, 2019 at the Art Gallery of South Australia, as part of the exhibition.

Hewson is currently studying a program of theoretical and clinical studies in psychoanalysis at the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis in Melbourne. Hewson works as a support worker at W.I.R.E. (a women’s walk in centre in Melbourne), and has completed a level one intensive in Narrative Therapy at the University of Melbourne.
