Finding inspiration from decorative silk fabrics that draw upon international fashion designers, the artist Tim Van’s paintings incorporate a performative and theatrical component. The artist’s process is one of capturing the folds and movements, initially in a photograph, in order to bring to life the vibrancy and beauty of these fabrics. Found objects are often included in the painting in order to convey the bizarre and other worldly in life. The compositions pay homage to the inspirational and often dramatic lives such designers lead, and acknowledge the many layers of complexities within the creative journey.
