Nick Mullaly is an artist specialising in oil painting and drawing, whose practice combines filmic and expressionistic sensibilities to explore romance, desire, and the pregnant moment. These paintings emerge from drawings, observations and notes as poetic or allegorical prompts, illuminated in an ambery glow. Ambiguity of time and gesture is formed in unsharpened and fuzzy brush marks, pictures within pictures, and a freeze frame sensibility. Light interacting with shadow and careful attention to framing embed these compositions with intimacy.
Nick completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) degree at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2018.
