Artist Statement:
Ohhh Amy. My heart aches for her - raw, brilliant, vulnerable. Hounded by a cruel press obsessed with her unravelling. She was just a girl who could sing, who loved, who felt deeply. She could've been your daughter. Inspired by musical greats, styled with soul (and a little help from the Ronettes!) she laid herself bare. Fragile, authentic, and unforgettable. We watched - and failed her... Another honorary member of the 27 club.
My PhD research reimagines 14th-century Sienese devotional aesthetics to explore contemporary spiritual communion through music. The project investigates how gold-ground techniques and symbolic strategies can inform new devotional objects that resonate within present-day musical culture. Grounded in formative encounters with International Gothic art and recent scholarship, the research engages the transcendent potential of handmade processes - particularly the metaphysical qualities of gold - as a conduit between past and present, image and sound, matter and spirit.
