Meagan Streader
Artist Statement - Meagan Streader
Streader’s work, untitled (after eileen) #2 is both an homage and a reimagining - drawing from Eileen Gray’s modernist design practice, whilst embodying its own contemporary presence through light, line and texture. In dialogue with Gray’s innovative 1920s room dividers, Streader extends a lineage of female pioneers whose spatial interventions pushed the boundaries of architectural discourse.
Within this work, interlocking 3D printed octagonal frames house glass panels and lines of light to create a glowing, moveable lattice. Each piece has been 3D printed and designed to swivel gently, combined with found glass materials from the artist’s studio stock. In untitled (after eileen) #2, Streader has deliberately embraced the imperfections of both the 3D printing process and mottled coloured glass.
Tessellating light lines appear to pierce through each panel, creating optical effects of shadow play, refraction and rhythmic shapes. The dialogue between Gray’s modernist vision and Streader’s contemporary light practice unfolds as a conversation across time.
Through the quiet intervention of illumination, early modernist spatial explorations find a renewed articulation, breathing with the sublime impact of light. Streader illuminates not only the physical space but also the once-overlooked contributions of women to modernist design language.
