Secret Existence: Marion Abraham
My painting is organised as an exploration of body and ‘soul’ to investigate inner workings of the self. I’m attracted to violent and bombastic moments, riddled with wild rantings covered in superficial beauty. My work uses cliches and evocative language that is equally paranoid and self-conscious. I see the soul as loving finer things while immersed in a filthy, simple and brutal zone. On the other hand, my practice envisions the muscle and bone that make the body as a collection of atoms and neurons. As a medium, painting strikes me as a space in between that belongs neither here nor there, a mysterious threshold of pigment. I am aware that oil painting carries traditional connotations. But I am crazy hot for the chance to quietly dash the brains of tradition against the wall.
