The Huxleys Acquisition by Brimbank City Council & Live Performance at Sarah Scout Presents

Leigh by The Huxleys has been acquired by Brimbank City Council! Paying homage to iconic Australian performer and artist Leigh Bowery, the acquisition is especially meaningful with Brimbank’s theatre and gallery also named in his honour.

From 30 July to 1 August, The Flower of My Secret by The Huxleys will be available for bid in 'The Election Exhibition', an art auction by Sarah Scout Presents to re-elect Gabrielle de Vietri to Parliament. The Huxleys will be performing live for the closing event on Saturday 1 August 6 - 8pm.

What is the importance of honouring queer legacies in local art collections?
 

Leigh by The Huxleys is held in the Brimbank City Council collection, ensuring its legacy continues to inspire The Huxleys and future generations of queer artists.

 

Part of The Huxleys’ Bloodlines series, exhibited at MARS for their solo exhibition ‘Life on MARS’ in 2025, the work is a heartfelt and vibrant tribute to LGBTQIA+ icons including Leigh Bowery, Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring and Sylvester. Through their signature sparkling and joyous style, The Huxleys honour the cultural influence and long-lasting impact of these iconic figures.

The acquisition provides an opportunity to revisit and acknowledge the HIV/AIDS crisis through a contemporary setting, ensuring queer histories are shared within the community. – Andy Dinan
