BUZZ around Atong in Germany!

Saarbrücken's Stadtgalerie in Germany features work from Atong’s Surat series in a new group exhibition playfully curated by children and young people.

Playing off the name of a children’s song describing the buzzing of bees, SUMM SUMM SUMM (October 3 2025 – February 22 2026) draws on issues of ecology and community to give agency to children and young people. These young curators selected works for the exhibition’s rationale of using the arts as an opportunity to reflect on actively shaping our futures.

Their selection of Atong’s vibrant practice of portraiture attests to the accessibility of her rich visual language across borders and ages.

Atong’s work is currently showing elsewhere in Europe at the National Maritime Museum of the Netherlands permanent exhibition Shadows on the Atlantic, as well as locally at the Art Gallery of New South Wales' portico, the Redcliffe Art Gallery’s group show Living Archive: Blak Resistence and Joy until 8 November, and the National Portrait Gallery's forecourt until July 2026. Next month, MARS is delighted to debut Atong in Paris Photo's Emergence Sector from 13 – 16 November.

Congratulations Atong!
