This December, Scotty will release an editioned calendar, THE ENDLESS SUMMER OF 1969.
Inspired by the American surf documentary from 1966, The Endless Summer, and Lana De Rey’s 2015 The Endless Summer Tour, Scotty's work also draws on inspiration from the Harold Holt Swim Centre which the artist has been living next to for 6 years.
Scotty was fascinated by the fact that the swim centre was named after a former Prime Minister that disappeared into the ocean, and the conspiracies that surrounded his disappearance.
Scotty's new work draws on one particular conspiracy, using AI imagery to reimagine his drag persona, Scarlett So Hung Son, as a Chinese spy, provoking a sense of nostalgia for the passionate and tragic love between younger women and men in power.
THE ENDLESS SUMMER OF 1969 will be released in an edition of 130, and will coincide with Scotty's biggest show to date, Maybe She Was There, opening Friday 6 December at MARS.
